Why do agencies charge $2,500–$10,000 a month?

Agency retainers run $2,500 to $10,000 a month because of three cost drivers: list size, automation complexity and design depth.

  • List size and volume. More subscribers and more sends mean more segmentation work and higher platform fees. The Klaviyo bill is separate from any agency’s fee, including ours.
  • Automation complexity. A welcome email is an afternoon. A seven-branch flow that behaves differently for first-time buyers, VIPs and lapsed customers is a project.
  • Design and copy depth. Custom-coded templates and heavy testing cost more than clean, proven layouts.

The rest of a big retainer is structure: account managers, project managers, an office and a sales team. We don’t have that layer. You talk directly to the person in your account, which is how we charge $1,500 where others charge $4,000.

How much do agencies charge per email?

Agencies that bill per email charge roughly $250 to $1,000+ per send, depending on design and copy. We don’t bill that way, since campaigns are bundled into the retainer, but the math is a useful check: the Starter plan works out to about $375 per campaign with flows, segmentation, deliverability and reporting included.

What’s not included?

The retainer covers the work. Your email platform subscription, SMS credits, cold email infrastructure and paid ads are billed separately.

  • Your email platform subscription. Klaviyo, Mailchimp and others bill you directly based on list size, typically $35–$700 a month. We’ll help you pick the right tier so you don’t overpay.
  • SMS credits. Carrier fees are billed by your platform per message.
  • Cold email infrastructure. Outbound uses its own domains and tools and is quoted separately.
  • Paid list growth. We optimize your signup forms; we don’t run your ads.

If we think you don’t need an agency yet, with a list under about 1,000 contacts, we’ll say so on the audit and point you to a DIY setup instead.

Is email marketing still worth it in 2026?

Yes. Litmus research puts the return on email at about $36 for every $1 spent, and in our experience a healthy ecommerce program drives 25–40% of store revenue. A $1,500 retainer pays for itself at roughly $5,000 a month in email-attributed revenue. For scale, one account we manage produced $434,056 in Klaviyo-attributed revenue over nine months, and our largest documented account produced $1,122,477 in 12 months. See all case studies. If your store does $20k a month or more, the channel almost certainly clears that bar.

Pricing FAQ

Common pricing questions.

Is there a setup fee?

No separate setup fee. Month one is heavier on builds (flows, templates, deliverability) and lighter on campaigns; the retainer is the same.

Can I start on Starter and move up?

That is the normal path. Most clients move up when campaign volume or SMS starts making sense.

What if I just want flows built, one time?

One-off flow builds run $3,000–$10,000 across the market. We quote project work case by case after an audit, but flows need maintenance, and the retainer is usually better value by month three.

Do you offer performance or revenue-share pricing?

No. Revenue-share deals push agencies toward discount-blasting your list. A flat retainer keeps our incentives on list health.
